Just a drawing of a fox I finished yesterday. I can't decide whether I like the left or the right version better...
I think if we had dæmons in this world (as in Lyra's world in His Dark Materials) mine would have the shape of a fox. I you haven't read the Dark Materials trilogy yet, you really should. Seriously. Go buy it.
I can't believe how fast time went by! The last three days went by in a blur of stress, new classes and new people. School has definitely started!
I had my first classes of Japanese stories, English literature, Classical literature and Mythology. I hardly remember Japanese stories because I was too bewildered by all the new people and actually finding the right classroom to pay attention to anything, English literature went better because I happened to sit next to a girl who didn't know anyone either (she's taking me tea shopping next week so that should be fun) but we also had to discuss a poem, and I got sorted into a group with two guys who really didn't want to agree with me... With classical literature and mythology I felt more at ease. I recognized most of the names in the stories and I just really like myths :) I think I might start something like 'Mythical Monday' to share the best ones with you :)
I really want to read the Iliad and the Odyssey now... And this is definitely the prettiest version that contains them both :)
I'd really really like to have this one though, I love the clothbound classics!
But they don't have a clothbound versions of the Iliad, so I might go with these two, because they'll look nice together and they're a bit more practical to take with me on the train :)
Well, I'm off to eat the chickensoup my neighbour brought over. I guess she thinks I'm only eating unhealthy food now my parents are on their holiday, because the said "If it doesn't taste good, a least it's healthy!" :P
I actually eat pretty healthy though, except from the occasional speculaas ;)
This will be just a little update aboute the things I've been up to lately! My lessons will start in a week, so I'm spending the free time I have now making notebooks and doing fun stuff with my boyfriend.
I made a pile of new notbooks a few days ago. I bought some more colours of linnen to experiment with and a lot of pretty patterned paper! I'll show off the final results tomorrow :)
Also, my books for school arrived... These packages looked pretty ominous to me...
Look at those two enormous English literature books! And they made the paper so thin they managed to cram three thousand pages in one book...
The one on the top has already found it's place to my nightstand though :)
Yesterday was the last time my boyfriend and I were able to spend a whole day together for a while, so we decided to have an elf themed day. We wore green clothes, though about going outside (we would have if it wasn't only 13 degrees...), watched Lord of the Rings and made pretty cupcakes :) We both had no experience with marzipan whatsoever, so I'm pretty satisfied with how they turned out! Even though we got bored with it and just put some leftover leaves on two of them :P
The weather hasn't really gotten any better lately... It almost feels like winter! Most of the time it just looks like this:
I catch myself dreaming about long, wool gloves and hot tea with applepie every time I go out... I hope the weather is better where you live!
The first part of the next school year I'll probably have to go to school for only two days a week!
We get to pick our own subjects or packages of subjects for the first half year, so I spent the last couple of days picking out subjects I like and arranging them to fit on only Tuesday and Wednesday and now I've got it all figured out :)
I went through a lot of subjects though. First I wanted to do 3D-modelling and programming, but that didn't work out. Then I considered Astronomy, English proficiency, Ancient cultures, Game design, Ambient interaction (I don't even know what that means), Artificial Intelligence and Chemistry... Sometimes it isn't so great being interested in a lot of stuff :P And all the time I actually wanted to do something more creative! But I'll have plenty of time to draw and make notebooks in my own time now :)
I've chosen English literature, Japanese stories, Worldmyths and Classic literature. I'm so excited! It's just the thing for me. I really love books... And I'll finally have more time to do all the other things I love to do too :)
Another thing that makes me happy: I got the clothbound version of Wuthering Heights from my mother! It's so pretty it makes me want to stroke it and say sweet things to it... Re-reading that I realise it kind of has the same effect on me as a cat...
So with this one I have three books of the Clothbound Classics... The other ones are Pride & Prejudice and A Chrismas Carol. The latter was actually a gift from me to my father, but I am already thinking of some schemes to steal it back when I move out... In my defence: he didn't even read it!
Tomorrow I'm spending the whole day at home, working on my notebooks. I'm really looking forward to it! I'll share some pictures of my hopefully pretty notebooks tomorrow :)
I've been game addicted ever since I found out computers could also do these fun things. I've had periods where I downloaden five trials a day and played them all. Now I've stopped wasting my time so much and I only play games I really like. Some of these are time management games, because you don't have to think at all while playing (I play these in between studying sessions) but the ones I really like are mostly point and click/adventure/puzzle games. This will be the first post in a series :)
I played Samorost a few years ago and loved it. It all fits together so perfectly! The beautiful environments, the characters, the music.. It's a real adventure to play and the only downside is that it's too short :) Luckily there's a second part!
A few months ago I stumbles across the demo of Machinarium. It's made by the same studio as Samorost. You play as a robot who has been exiled to the scrap heap. You have to get him back to the city to save his robot girlfriend. Once again, this is a beautiful game by Amanita Design. I really wish I had the collectors edition, which comes with the soundtrack on CD and concept art :)
Ever since this game I've been hooked to Amanita Design. The crew consists of eight guys from the Czech Republic.
I wonder why there's one missing...
They don't only design games, but they've also made this lovely music video for the Danish band Under Byen.
They have some other games, which you can all play here. I really recommend doing so :) They also made a book, which you can download as a pdf file!
Looks pretty cute, doesn't it!
I hope you enjoy playing some of their beautiful games :)
